Here’s the scene. The setup is that Gere nearly lost his hedge fund with a bad bet. He did other bad things. Meanwhile, the wife has been unable to keep up with her charity funding activities, threatening her social position. She reaches a simple conclusion, and claims moral justification because their daughter works in his firm (“How dare you treat our daughter like a professional?”):
